Christine Martin 2011 Season in Review; Give Back to Golisano Charity Event Highlights Difficult Season for Christine Martin Racing Craig Revelle - Finish Line Web Design - October 25, 2011
When
the season began back in April, optimism was high but mechanical problems
sidelined the team at Can Am. The
following weekend, Martin had top ten finishes at Can Am, as well as the
season opener at Can Am, but much of the season, Martin and her team
struggled to find consistency. Martin
did contend for a win on a couple occasions, and ended the season with
season high finishes of second at Can Am on June 17th, and
sixth at Fulton Speedway on July 2nd.
Late in the season, Martin was leading at Can Am for the first 11
laps of the race, and contact from the second place car caused her to
rollover. That was the second
time in three weeks that she had rolled over, and it was the only times in
her career that she was upside down.
It was a scary moment for the Christine Martin team, but after a
lot of hard work in the shop, they were back the following week. Martin
started out following the DIRTcar Sportsman series, but decided to trim
down their schedule in late season. They
did attempt to qualify for Super DIRT Week, but they were not able to make
the field of more then 60 cars, with only 30 cars making the main event. One
of the highlights of the season was the Christine Martin Racing Charity
event for the Golisano Children’s Hospital in Syracuse, New York.
Martin, along with Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park raised over
$3000 for the hospital. “We
had a fantastic time at the charity event, and we want to thank everyone
that contributed and everyone that helped us out”, says Christine
Martin. “Hopefully we can
do this again next year and raise even more money for Golisano”. Plans
for the 2012 racing season have not yet been finalized for the Christine
Martin Racing team. With the
2011 season just ending, Martin will take some time off, and make their
decisions this winter. “Overall,
it was a tough season for us, but we had some good moments that we can
build on, and hopefully next year will be much better”, says Martin.
“We have a good team, we have good cars, and I have been learning
every year as a driver. We
are working hard at achieving our goals, and hopefully next year we can
have some better results”. The Christine Martin
Racing team would like to thank all of their sponsors for their support
this season. They include
American Traditions Motorsports, SUNY Canton, FABCO of Watertown and the
Believe in Ben campaign. We
look forward to sharing our success with all of you throughout the year.
